Abstract: Many countries in Asia suffer from frequent damage caused by typhoon or cyclone-associated heavy rainfall and floods. Many capital cities in the region are afflicted with repeated flooding. In many cases, changes in land-use as part of the urbanization process increase the susceptibility of flooding. The growing concentration of population and economic activities exacerbate the human suffering and economic loss which result from such urban floods.
