Abstract: When sediment-laden flow enters the backwater zone of a reservoir,due to suddenreduction of sediment transport capacity,coarse sediment starts to deposit in the channelbottom and fine sediment is carried further downstream.Under certain conditions(Singhand Shen,1971),turbid water will plunge beneath the ambient water and flows alongthe bottom of the reservoir.This phenomenon is called turbidity current.The definitionsketch is shown in Fig.1.
