Abstract: A project combining numerical modelling and experimental tracer studies was designed to investigate the mixing mechanisms governing pollutant dispersion. A two dimensional random walk model has been extended to include the third dimension. Simulations using this three-dimensional particle tracking technique have been compared with the results of the tracer studies. The results show good qualitative agreement using a simple representation of the turbulence parameters. More realistic turbulence and velocity data are required to refine and develop the model.
