Abstract: Considering numerous occurrences in domestic plumbing systems in a South German city itseems legitimate to assume that for specific faucets-approved and on the market-1)mightnot be sufficient and 2)impossible to fulfil. In most of the cases the non-return valves whichare integrated into the water meters as a precaution against back-siphonage into the mainsgot jammed in their seats and the normal head of approximately 6 bar could not free themagain. Thus, the respective building was disconnected from the water supply. In extremecases the valves, usually made of plastics, burst into splinters and blocked taps or householdmachinery.
