Abstract: The pumping installations and hydropower stations in theperiod of this construction and operation sometimes meet theneed of passing idle water through the pumps or turbines(1)。For instance, during the flood the low-head hydropower stationsbecome incapable of maintaining nominal revolution because ofrising water level at the down stream and head reduction.thenit becomes necessary to stop the units. In this case the entireidle discherge is transmitted over the spillway. In such a si-tuation the passage of even a part of the flow through the sta-tion system permits to decrease the overflow, step up reliabilityof the stetion, and the regard to such a possibility within thedesigning of other new hydropower stations will help to cut thespillway front and corresponding capital costs.
