Abstract: One of the most economical forms of spillway is the free-nappe overflowweir, shich flows over a spillway crest_in a dam, plunging through theatmos phere and into a stiliing basin. The plunge pool type stiliing basinforms a water cushion which allows energy dissipation of the plungingnappe, and the flow returns to the river via an end weir. This paper presents the results of such exper imental study for the case ofa rectangular nappe shose width is the same as the sti11ng basin(Ar nengou,1990).The main interest concerns the mean dynamic head, thepressure fluctuations ant the spectra of fluctuation on the sti1ling basinflocr in the region of the stagnation point.
