Abstract: Two versions of the depth-averaged k-ε model, a one-component model and a two-component model, are employed to calculate the flows of the turbulent mixing layers in a shallow open-channel. The results obtained from the two-component model, which models the bed-generated turbulence as a separate component and the transverse-shear-generated turbulence by a k-ε model, are in better agreement with experimental data than the one-component model which treats both components together as a whole.
