Abstract: A k-ε algebraic stress model (ASM) is applied to experimental data obtained from a plane buoyant surface jet. For taking account of the damping effects of the gravitational field and the free surface on turbulence structure accurately, the ASM is examined with a free surface damping function. The ASM solution tested produces a good agreement with measurements on the flow development and turbulent entrainment and also the dependence of turbulence structure on Richardson numbers.
