Abstract: A physical model built at a horizontal scale of 1/150 and a vertical scale of 1/75 with a distortion of 2 was employed to determine the induced flow pattern, the temperature distribution and the intake recirculation for various natural flow conditions resulting from the heated water discharge from the outfall of a once-through cooling system of the Ao Phai coal-fired power plant. A large number of tests were conducted in connection with various designs and performances of thermal discharge structures of both surface and offshore submerged schemes. On the basis of these investigations, the recommended discharcge structure for four units of steam turbine plant is the offshore submerged staggered multiport diffuser discharge scheme.
