Abstract: There are great demands for warning-and alarm-systems for the prediction of the course of pollution in rivers in terms of precision and reliability. On one hand the forecast models have to be very precise, on the other hand the input data are rudimentary poor and the available time for forecasting is very short. For the example of the Rhine River some solutions, especial a tracer expe-riment, will be presented.
