Abstract: Developments in remote measurement techniques for the surface layers of water bodiesdemandspecial attention to be payed to the temperature distribution in the near-surface layer. In the presentreport by the near-surface layer we mean a several millimeters thick layer contacting the air-water inter-face.Here significant temperature gradients are observed because of the prevaling viscous forces.Everywater body is normally under the wind action and a corresponding mixing rate due to shear and wavingoccurs. Therefore the deeper layer of about 30 cm has practically no temperature gradient [1].In thissituation most of hydrothermal studies include the so-called standard temperature read contact metersin the depth of 2 to 10cm.The absence of a temperature gradient at the usual wind conditions excludethe necessity of referring of the standard temperature to a certain depth.
