Abstract: In recent years, many mathematical water quality models have been developed tosimulate chemical, physical and biological processes in river waters. It was acormon practice to describe the problems related to chemical and biologicalprooesses in river waters through deterministic differential equations.Themodels were deterministic in that they provided a single response for each setof model parameters and/or initial conditions. However, there is always someuncertainty, both in the evaluation of field data and in the use of mathematicalmodels to predict the outoome of natural processes, since the processes are stillnot completely understood and the full representation is usually too complex andtoo costly to implement.
