Abstract: The increasing demand for.energy and the growing world trade require theconstruction of harbours and terminals in deeper waters. Accordingly, thestructures which provide protection against wave action have to become higher, too. In most cases, these protective structures are rubble mounds.Under theseconditions the induced wave forces and the related geotechnical behaviour of therubble mounds become more significant for the overall stability and should beconsidered in the design.
