Abstract: The coastal formations of alluvial plains are created by the interaction ofseveral physical agents controlling the erosion, transport and deposition ofsediments. The main physical agents acting on coastal formations are the tidalcurrents, the fluvial flow, the waves in the sea and the waves within theformation itself;the wind may also play a direct role in the sand movement fromthe littoral. In the sediment balance due consideration should also be given tothe possible subsidence of the soi1 and to the rise of the sea-1evel due tolong-term climatic variations(eustatism).
