Abstract: Longshore sediment transport has been the subject of intensive research formore than four decades. While this research has produced several predictiveprecedures,no single formula has emerged as the most reliable and none have provento yield better than order of magnitude estimates of longshore transport rates(Wiilis,1987). Nevertheless,several studies have shown a clear relationshipbetween the longshore sediment transport rate(expressed as an immersed weight,I)and the shore-parallel component of wave energy flux(PL):
