Abstract: Modelling of gravel bed rivers by using sand sized material in a laboratorytray has been accepted as a way of studying the processes that occur in gravelrivers.Ashmore(1986)reported as others have since that in the laboratorytray the resultant plan forms, the manner of material transport and the channelprocesses are similar to those observed in the field.Observations in thisstudy confirm these views.Measurements of channel geometries and sedimenttransport rates are used to further explore the correspondence between a labora-tory and a field situation.
