Abstract: CARICHAR and SEDICOUP are two new one-dimensional mobile bed simulation codes,spe-cially developed to be able to model highly unsteady flows in alluvial rivers. The general features ofthese codes are outlined in a companion paper presented in a technical session of this congress(Holly and Rahuel,1989)and additional information is given by Belleudy et al.(1987),Holly et al.(1987),Rahuel(1988).The coupled solution of the full De Saint-Venant and sediment equations byimplicit schemes allows robust modeling of unsteady water and sediments dynamics, with large timesteps.Sediment mixtures are treated through the breakdown of the bed material distribution curves inseveral homogeneous classes,a mass conservation equation being applied to each class.WhileCARICHAR is currently limited to the computation of bedload transport,SEDICOUP also treatssuspension by solving a convection-diffusion equation for each class.
