Abstract: Very often coastal or estuarine water quality problems involve two-phasecontaminants -dissolved and particulate -that can interact. The fate of thecontaminant particulate form is bound to materials to which it is adsorbed andthus to their transport in water column or in surficial sediments.Generallythe affected particles are fine and cohesive, either organic or mineral. As many interdependant elementary processes are involved(environmentalturbulence, advection by tidal currents,erosion,deposition,bedconsolidation,adsorption/desorption,chemical and biological processes …),mathematical modeling is the lone method to get a global understanding of thecontaminants distribution.
