Abstract: An analysis of the variation of the longitudiral dispersion coeffi-cient and its effect on the predicted concentration-time curves in open channelshas been presented. It has been shown that the dispersion coefficient is notconstant along the leng th of the stream. It has also been shown that manyof the well known predictors of dispersion coefficient are not able to correctlypredict the concentration-times curves downs tream of the section of dischargeof the eff1uents.
