Abstract: Energy dissipation through the inlets of the Lagoon of Venice in natural and regulated conditions are studied via aerodynamic models. The relevance of the problem lies in the reliability of such models with regard to engineering design of the planned regulations. Details are given on a particular experimental setup. Upon comparison with analogous trials in ordinary and distorted hydraulic models at much larger scales, it is concluded that aerodynamic models are cost-effective tools for engineering practice at least in the scale of the Venice projects.
