Abstract: The flow transition of water-air mixtures in steeply inclined partially filled pipes to almost horizontal conduits is analysed. The paper mainly deals with the de-aeration zone downstream of the tran- sition. The results also enable fundamental statements on the de- aeration process of nappes or jets (e. g. immedi ately downstream of deflecting bottom aerators in high velocity spillways) to be made.
