Abstract: A method is presented for calculating the water circulation in a topographically complex tidal creek- mangrove swamp system, by linking one- and two-dimensional finite difference models. Neither a lake model nor a one-dimensional channel model with flood plains are very successful, indicating that the small but finite lag between sea levels in the creek an the surrounding wetlands is an impor tant phenomenon controlling the hydrodynamics of a tidal creek.
