Abstract: Design hydrographs for major river valley projects are traditionally obtained by considering rainfall-runoff relations for the basins followed by routing the flows to the project sites using hydrologic routing procedures. However, exceptionally large flows as obtained under the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) conditions which cause considerable overbank spills, storage in flood plains, diversion of overflow water into neighbouring valleys preclude the use of conventional routing procedures and therefore require special trea tment. This paper presents the models utilised for routing the flows of the Narmada, which has displayed large scale flooding in some of its reaches, to obtain the design hydrograph at Navagam dam site.
