Abstract: A two-dimensional model of flood plains is developed to study floods of Bangkok. The flood plain is divided into a number of cells, representing the surrounding storages which are connected by a number of linking channels according to the physical condition. A finite difference method of implicit scheme and a double sweep algorithm are utilized to compute water levels at the cells and discharges along the linking channe1s. The model can simulate 1980 and 1983 floods well. The new flood barrier is found effective and the proposed construction of a new airport will have small effects on water level and flow in the flood plain.
