Abstract: An investigation into the role and effects of reach subdivision on the solution of the concentrated storage method of flood. routing was carried out. The significance and features of the observed trend of the solution with increasing reach subdivision were dis cussed. A procedure, referred to as the attenuation profile method, was in troduced to determine the characteristic reach length for reach subdivision in the application of the concentrated storage routing method. The applicability of the procedure was demonstrated using flood data from two Australian rivers.
