Abstract: A new flow control device has been developed and tested which offers the prospect of extending the use of such modulators to a wide range of hydraulic applications. It comprises two vortex valves (matched but different in size) employed in a cascade arrangement which has no mechanical moving parts but which yields very attractive flow characteristics, notably an exceptionally high turn down ratio and a control curve which is linear over the operating range.
