Abstract: Two studies performed at the LNH are presented: the exam ination of the morphological evolution in the River Canche estuary and the extension of the West Dunkirk harbour. The River Canch e estuary is subject to a large sand transport due to the filling and the emptying of the estuary during the tidal period. The tidal currents and the bed evolution have been ap preciated b y usin g numerical models. The impact of a local protection project has also been exam ined. The exten sion of the West Dunk irk outer harbour and its linkup with the existing East harbour has required several hydraulic studies. Tidal currents inside the harbour have been computed to appreciate modifications in navigational conditions, and sedim entological prob lem s.
