Abstract: Distribution of velocities and turbulence intensity in the water flow at the outlet of the simple straight-line confusor smoothly connecting pipes of different diameters were investigated, The confusor was found to significantly straighten the velocity profile and to decrease the turbulence intensity by one order. It is shown that the degree of velocity profile straightening by simple straight-line confusors with optimum pa-rameters (which are defined in this study) is the same as for specially profiled nozzles. The simple straight-line confusors can be used for straightening of the velocity profile (which, in particular, makes it possible to update the methods of flow rate evaluation based on velocity measurement at one point of the pressure pipe-1ine section) and also (along with special screens, honeycombs, etc. ) for flow determinisa-tion.
