Abstract: In 1985,the IAHR looks back on 50 years ofactivities.The Association was founded inBrussels on the third of September 1935,by agroup of far-sighted engineers and scientists,most of them directors of hydraulic researchlaboratories.It was their intention to stim-ulate and promote basic and applied research inhydraulics and hydraulic engineering and toprovide at the same time a forum where theinternational community of scientists andengineers could meet,exchange views and dis-cuss new research results.
