Abstract: Unsteady flows are encountered in many applicationsof hydraulics and fluid mechanics.Indeed, innatural systems the flow is usually unsteady and, inartificial systems, steadiness is often only anapproximate idealisation of the real phenomena.Experimenters who need to measure the quantitieswhich characterise unsteady flows are confronted bymany difficulties and it has become possible toachieve certain measurements only in recent timeswith the development of digital electronics forsignal processing and of micro-computers for dataacquisition and processing.
