Abstract: The expansion of riparian vegetation in Korea is very fast in recent years. Though the trend of vegetation increase is very clear for the last 10 years, its cause is still unclear so far. In this study, the expansion of riparian vegetation in Korea is analyzed. For that purpose, three rivers are investigated through aerial photograph analysis. And the precipitation pattern is also analyzed in relation with the expansion of vegetation. Rainfall decrease in spring season is up to 49% for the last 10 years in 19 gauging points over all country. On hydromorphological base, it could be also said that decrease of rainfall makes the chance of washout of the sprout of vegetation low in river bed, so that rainfall decrease can contribute to the vegetation increase.
