Abstract: The effect of selected parameters of a simplified tree on bed morphology are investigated in flume experiments. The bed material consisted of fine gravel with a mean diameter of 3.6 mm. Several hydraulic conditions with bed shear stresses between 0.4 and 1.0 times the critical shear stress of the bed material were adjusted. The flow was kept constant for a defined time and the bed topography was scanned with Seatek ultrasonic transducers. The effect of root plate diameter, stem diameter and stem length on the maximum scour depth is analyzed, revealing a dominant impact of the root plate diameter, a dependency of the stem length, and no effect of the stem diameter.
