Abstract: The aim of river training engineering in Qinhe River downstream is to control flood and reduce disaster, including rebuilding, continued construction, heightening and strengthening b ased on the existing engineering. The main contents consist of earthwork and rock excavation. The characteristic of the project is that it is dispersed in many spots, quite long lines and wide areas. B y using remote sensing, the landscape ecology method is proposed to evaluate regional landscape pattern, ecological stability and change trend after the river training engineering, where the index of patch, landscape density, landscape frequency and landscape advantage are considered. It is pro vided to analyze the feasibility of the river training engineering and gather the experience of envir onmental evaluation based on landscape ecology in the river training. Keywords: landscape ecology, environmental assessment, application The landscape ecology is an emerging interdisciplinary science mainly studying the interactions between spatial pattern and ecological process. Since this conceptual framework and theoretical method is introduced by the former State Environmental Protection Administration in" Technical Guidelines for Environment Impact Appraisal-Non Pollution Ecological Impact" (HJ/T19-1997) ,the method of landscape ecology has been widely applied in the environmental impact assessment on the ecological construction projects, achieving a certain evaluation purpose and effect. The author would apply the method of landscape ecology into the environmental impact assessment on the governance engineering of the river course in the downstream of Qinhe River, the experience I got from the practice is summarized as follows, so as to share with my colleagues.
