Abstract: In this paper, the morphological development of different nourishment designs is investigated by means of physical experiments and numerical modeling. In particular, experiments and model runs have been carried out for one design of beach nourishment and two different designs of shoreface nourishments, including different wave conditions. Models and data have shown the effect of the nourishments on wave height reduction across the profile, which leads to a reduction of the eroded volume at the beach. Locally, at the location of the nourishments, a clear increase in flow velocity and concentrations is shown by both, model and data results. Finally, the effect of multiple fraction and a multilayered bed stratigraphy were also included in the simulations, allowing the simulation of nourishment with different grain characteristics compared to the native beach.
