Abstract: In a test of sand physical model, it is very important to select model sand with appropriate physical and kinetic characteristics. However, most available model sands such as wood, coal sand and plastic sand are not satisfactory in some ways. In this paper, on the basis of previous research and practice, a new model sand BZY has been successfully developed. And then, to examine the property of the new type model sand, experiments have been carried out on its properties, including volume-weight, incipient velocity, settling velocity, repose angle, etc. The experiments show that the BZY model sand has many merits over others, such as adjustable unit weight, wide rang of particle size, particle shape similar to natural sand and stable physical& chemical properties. This new model sand can meet various requirements. It is a kind of sand with appropriate property and has great promotion and application values.
