Abstract: Internal erosion of hydraulic structure, such as dam piping, has attracted much attention in geotechnical engineering. Since the occurrence of the internal erosion generally accompanied with the gap-graded soil, the fine particles can easily move among the coarse grain under hydraulic disturbances. In our study, aiming to the internal erosion phenomenon, the movement characteristic of the fine particles in pore is mainly investigated. Based on the Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) coupled with Discrete Element Method (DEM), the fine particles’ flow in pore was simulated under the effect of vertical pressure and hydraulic gradient. The whole process is dynamic. The clog mainly concentrates in the inlet of porous media. The formation of clog will influence the transportation of hydraulic gradient.
