Abstract: Currently, the Hydraulics Laboratory of CEDEX is carrying out the hydraulic study of the spillway of the La Fuensanta dam. Hybrid modeling is being used for its analysis, combining numerical modeling and physical modeling. Initially, the spillway has been analyzed with numerical models, mainly three-dimensional, in order to detect potential performance issues. Secondly, a large number of modifications have been tested with the intention of achieving a satisfactory solution to the problems previously identified. These first two phases have been carried out with the SPHerimental software, developed entirely by CEDEX. This implements the SPH method (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics), a Lagrangian model of particles that, through an averaging technique, can solve the Navier-Stokes equations for three-dimensional flow. It has been developed using CUDA, which takes advantage of the computing power of GPU graphics cards and, consequently, reduces calculation times considerably and uses supercomputing techniques in cheaper hardware. Afterwards, a 1/40 reduced-scale physical model is being built reproducing the solution established in the previous phase. The definition of the inlet boundary condition of the physical model has been carried out using the Iber software, a two-dimensional numerical model.
