Abstract: Inflatable rubber gates are considered to have a number of advantages over standard steel gates. For this reason, an increasing use of this technology can be observed. This paper deals with flow-induced vibrations on rubber gates, in particular the influence of a series of breakers on the downstream side developed in a physical model. Although the initial experience with this device was good, there have been recent reports of damage by an operator, most likely caused by flow-induced vibrations. In-situ measurements were carried out at a weir with an almost similar geometry to the weir where the damage occurred. Accelerometers and pressure sensors were installed to investigate the vibration behavior over the entire range of openings. In addition, the weir was equipped with a monitoring system to detect possible unnoticed vibrations during normal operation. The results are presented and discussed against the background of the known causes of flow-induced vibrations.
