Abstract: 3D numerical simulations are performed to study the flow in a T-shaped, lab-scale confluence above four fixed beds, corresponding to the initial flat bed and the quasi-equilibrium bed observed in two lab experiments with a movable bed and a different discharge ratio between the confluent flows. For a number of time-averaged flow features predicted in the simulations, it is verified whether they can be linked to the location, orientation and horizontal extent of the scour holes observed in the experiments.
