Abstract: This paper explores the application of non-intrusive acoustic technologies, specifically acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCPs) and multi-beam echo-sounders (MBES), for studying sediment dynamics and bedform transport in rivers. Building on the acoustic mapping velocimetry (AMV) method, previously applied with MBES data, this study provides a proof-of-concept for using AMV with ADCP measurements. Data were collected from the Mississippi River, where ADCP and MBES surveys were conducted to track bedform migration and estimate bedload transport rates. The study demonstrates the potential of ADCP data for capturing sediment-flow interactions and offers methodological advancements in bedform mapping and velocity determination, contributing to improved bedload transport estimation in natural river systems.
