Abstract: The preliminary findings from an experimental campaign designed to delve into the wave overtopping and the wave induced-forces acting on composite vertical breakwaters are presented. In particular, the focus lies on studying the influence of the wave crown wall's position in terms of acting forces on the structure. Six different retreated crown wall configurations have been tested under regular wave conditions performing a large number of small-scale model tests. The investigation aims at exploring the effects of wall retreat position on the reduction/increase of the wave overtopping and forces/pressure on the whole structure, on the crown wall and on the caisson trunk.
