Abstract: The ex-Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle has devastated many parts of the North Island, New Zealand. To investigate the compound flooding due to heavy rainfall, river flow and storm tides during this extreme event, a semi-automatic modelling chain has been deployed, enabling automatic fetching data from the rainfall product, the hydrological model and the storm surge model and automatic setting up the flood model. We validated the model with river water level measurements. Results show the river flow is the major driver of the compound flooding in the study area.
