Abstract: This study investigates the effect of blockage ratios on vorticity distribution and hydrodynamic forces around a circular cylinder in a narrow channel, employing a three-dimensional numerical model that combines Large Eddy Simulation (LES) with the Volume of Fluid (VOF) method. The simulation, conducted using Truchas software, explores blockage ratios within the range of 10% to 25%, analyzing drag coefficients, Strouhal numbers, and vorticity distribution near the channel bed. The model validation against experimental results confirmed the accuracy of the LES model, demonstrating strong agreement in drag and Strouhal number measurements. The findings reveal that higher blockage ratios notably intensify rotational flows and turbulence, potentially increasing structural loading on cylindrical structures in confined environments.
