Keywords: Sediment Transport Sediment Deposition Deep Rainwater Drainage Tunnels Hydraulic Model Experiment

Abstract: In August 2022, Seoul, South Korea experienced record-breaking rainfall, highlighting the need for effective flood management solutions, such as a deep rainwater drainage tunnel. This study investigates suspended sediment transport and deposition in the tunnels using a hydraulic model experiment. The setup features a 4-m transparent PVC pipe for observing sediment behavior feeding from a sediment mixing tank. Sediment transport and deposition within a pipes were examined under varying flow conditions determined by different Froude number to characterize inflow dynamics. The sediment transport and the depostion process is repeated under different flow conditions to simulate potential flow patterns in a deep drainage tunnel. The findings provide valuable insights into sediment dynamics, supporting the design and operation of efficient and sustainable drainage systems.
