Abstract: A qualitative comparison is provided of the features identified in the (quasi-) equilibrium bed in 14 published sand bed experiments performed under clear water conditions in T-shaped, lab-scale confluences with vertical sidewalls. While the corner scour hole and the bank-attached bar are present in all experiments, other features (i. e. mid-channel scour hole, mid-channel bar, minor upstream scour hole, minor downstream scour hole, tributary mouth bar) are only present in some experiments. Different shapes and locations of the avalanche face in the tributary mouth are observed. Thus, further studying the effect of bed degradation on the hydrodynamics may depend on the selected experiment. Finally, a comparison is made between characteristic dimensions of the equilibrium bed features in the experiments and available empirical formulae.
