Keywords: Wave attenuation Vegetative floating islands Wet type Empirical model

Abstract: This empirical study presents a wave attenuation model for a stationary wet-type artificial box-shaped vegetated floating island based on dimensional analysis. The dimensionless coefficients for wave reflection, transmission, and wave energy dissipation can be predicted through the multiplication of several non-dimensional terms, incorporating parameters related to the root zone and matrix medium of the vegetated floating island, as well as wave characteristics, without considering the vegetation drag coefficient and friction factor. The empirical model was validated with experimental cases, showing good correlations. Furthermore, an algorithm was proposed, taking wave energy conservation into account, to correct the empirically derived values of the reflection coefficient, transmission coefficient, and wave energy dissipation coefficient.
