Keywords: Water conservation function InVEST Hanjiang River Basin (HRB)
Abstract: Water conservation function is vital for river basin ecosystems and it is also a key factor for sustainable development for river basin water resources management. Based on the InVEST model the water yield and conservation function of the Hanjiagn River Basin from 1995 to 2020 were quantitatively evaluated the differences in the water yield and water conservation function in different tributaries also assessed. The results show that, across the basin, water yield is higher in the south and east and lower in the north and west, largely due to local rainfall patterns and land use. Water conservation patterns were opposite to those of water yield, increasing from north to south. Meanwhile, the upper and middle reaches of the basin, with more cropland and less forest, have lower conservation. This study provides valuable insights for sustainable water management and ecological policies in the HRB, hoping to serve as a reference for future research and projects.
