Abstract: Performance indicators for water distribution networks allow to evaluate network’s reliability, as well as pipe ranking with respect to criticality of maintenance. Several indicators include the effect of WDN topology on the risk associated to pipe failure, but all of them neglect the effect of possible air intrusion and resulting freesurface flow inside the pipes. Here a new indicator is proposed, based on the Minimum Pressure (MP) assumption previously proposed by Tucciarelli et al. (2024) for the WDN steady-state solution. MP assumption assumes the network permeability to air intrusion, with a possible resulting limitation of the actual flow rates in case of pipe failure. A test is carried out to show differences in the pipe hydraulic weight that ultimately will significantly impact node and pipe criticality ranking.
