Abstract: We investigate flows through patches of coastal vegetation on an intertidal sandflat. Drone videos were captured of dye dispersion and mixing as currents were advected through an array of circular patches of vegetation mimics with well-constrained characteristics (heights, diameter and densities). Spatially and temporally varying dispersion parameters were calculated, and we examined the dependence of these parameters on position within the array, tidal height and flow speeds, and vegetation characteristics. Results were then compared qualitatively to a dye release showing propagation through natural mangrove vegetation.
