Abstract: This research examines the impact of the Water Diversion Project on hydrodynamics and water quality in Lake Taihu, China. The project, initiated to mitigate cyanobacterial blooms and meet water demands, has raised concerns about nutrient loading. Our study, leveraging field data, addresses the relationship between hydrodynamics and water quality in the context of water diversion. Key findings indicate significant spatial variations in chlorophyll a levels, with high concentrations in the north due to poor hydrodynamic conditions and nutrient inputs, and lower concentrations in the southeast which are indicative of more favorable ecological conditions, suggesting healthier ecosystems. These insights are crucial for future water management strategies to improve water quality and ecological health in Lake Taihu.
